John has been a Principal with Barney & Barney since 2006. He leads the Executive Liability Practice, which focuses on strategically managing clients’ directors and officers liability and errors & omissions programs. He and his executive liability team work with a large number of public and private companies helping them maximize the integration of corporate governance issues with their risk management needs.
John’s insurance-related experience spans 20 years. Prior to joining Barney & Barney, John was the Regional Financial Lines Manager for a division of a global insurance broker where he was responsible for directors & officers liability, professional liability, employment practices liability, and related coverages for 14 offices in the West. John has also served in the capacity of regional technology practice leader. Earlier in his career, John managed claim departments and held a national role at a global broker for D&O and professional liability coverage advocacy. He has worked extensively with life sciences, technology, healthcare and manufacturing sector clients and has successfully managed over 100 public company D&O programs.
John serves on the Board of Directors and three committees for Corporate Directors Forum. He is also a corporate member of Financial Executives International. John is a frequent author and public speaker on a host of topics that include, among others, insurance, indemnification, corporate governance and executive and professional liability.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, and a Juris Doctor from George Mason University School of Law. He is currently a non-practicing member of the Virginia Bar.
